1. When does registration open and how do I register?
Answer: Registration is now open. The easiest way to register is by going to the links on our Homepage and filling out the appropriate forms and paying the registration fee online. There are no prerequisites for registering or qualifiers, only eligibility requirements, which can be found on the CPAF website at www.cpaf.org.
2. How much will it cost?
Answer: The registration and sport fees are published in the Registration Book. It costs $150 USD per person to register to compete in the 2011 WPFG. This does not include the individual sport fee which starts at $25USD per event. There are some sports that customarily have a higher sport fee like shotgun sports, bowling, golf and some other sports. These prices will be clearly marked in the Registration Book.
3. Who is eligible to compete in the World Police & Fire Games?
Answer: The World Police & Fire Games Federation, (CPAF) is the governing body of the Games. They determine the eligibility requirements for the WPFG. Please visit their website to find out the eligibility requirements. Go to: www.cpaf.org. Click on CPAF at the bottom of page. Click on "click here for the CPAF gateway" in red on the middle, right hand side of the page. Click on the eligibility bar on the left. Click on the top link for future eligibility information.
4. Where is my sport being played?
Answer: All sports venues and competition dates are listed on our website and published in the Registration Book.
5. How do I get to my sport?
Answer: Most venues are easily accessible by public transportation. Venues that are remote will have transportation options such as shuttle services that may require a nominal fee. Rental cars will be available. New York City has an extensive mass transit system and will service a majority of our sports venues.
6. What Hotels are near Registration/Accreditation and the Athlete’s Village?
Answer: We are recommending everyone stay in the heart of the city (Midtown - Times Square area) to get the full New York City experience. We have secured unprecedented discount rates at NYC’s best hotels in Midtown. Take advantage of the great rates we have secured for our athletes and be close to public transportation, restaurants, registration/accreditation, Broadway, Museums, social activities and the athlete’s village. You can find a list of participating hotels on our website by clicking the travel button. Most of our venues are easily accessible by using public transportation and are easily accessible from any of these hotels.
7. I don’t see my sport in the 2011 WPFG list of sports. Can you add my sport to the games?
Answer: Thanks for your interest in the 2011 WPFG. We have finalized our list of sports for the 2011 World Police & Fire Games in New York City and will no longer be able to accommodate any more requests. There are no easy decisions for our sports committee. We have considered all of your sport requests and deliberated long and hard before deciding on the official 2011 WPFG Sports. Although we wish we could include all sports, it is just not physically possible. We used all of the feedback from your emails along with other factors to determine the sports for the 2011 WPFG that would provide our athletes with the best possible sports experience in New York.
8. What age division do I compete in?
Answer: Age is determined as of the first day of the 2011 World Police & Fire Games, August 26, 2011. The first day is defined as the beginning date of competition that the Host publishes in the Entry Book (usually on the cover). The most common age divisions are:
OPEN: Age 18 through 29
SENIOR: Age 30 through 39
MASTER: Age 40 through 49
GRAND MASTER Age 50 through 59
Sports may offer modified Age Divisions which reflect specific conditions in the sports and are based on the above (See Individual Sports Rules).
IF AN AGE IN A DIVISION IS NOT OFFERED IT IS INCLUDED IN THE NEXT YOUNGEST AGE DIVISION OFFERED.
EXAMPLE: If Open Division is the only age division offered, then Open now includes ages 18 and over.
A competitor in the Senior, Master or Grand Master Division may elect to compete in a younger division as long as this is indicated on the original Sports Entry Form. This alternative is not available to late entries.
EXCEPTIONS: In all Individual events in Track & Field (including Decathlon) and Singles Golf, competitors will compete only in the age division of their actual age. Other sports such as weight sports have restrictions on how many age divisions a competitor may drop (see sport rules).
A competitor may enter only one age division in an event.
EXAMPLE: A competitor who qualifies as a Senior may compete in Senior Singles or Open Singles, but may not compete in both Senior and Open Singles in an event.
A Team (including Doubles) must compete in an age division eligible to its youngest member.
9. Can I enter an event in 2 different age or weight categories?
Answer: A competitor may enter only one age or weight division in any one event. For example; a Senior may compete in either, but not both, “Senior” and “Open” Singles in Badminton.
A competitor may enter only one Doubles event with only one partner in any sport, except both Doubles and Mixed Doubles may be entered. For example; Jim, age 35, enters Tennis Senior Men's Doubles with Tom. He may also enter Tennis Senior Mixed Doubles with Sue, but he may not enter Tennis Open Men's Doubles with Fred.
A competitor may be on only one (1) team in any sport. For example; Mike enters Men’s Division I Soccer. He may NOT compete on any other team in Soccer, whether Division I or Division II.
10. Can competitors from different agencies play on the same team?
Answer: Yes. Combined Teams are governed by all of the following guidelines. Combined Teams (to include Doubles and Mixed Doubles) may be formed by competitors from more than one agency representing Police and/or Fire within a country. Competitors from police services and fire services may form a combined team. In theory, a Softball team could be comprised of competitors from as many as 20 small agencies.
Competitors on Combined Teams must all be from within the same country. Non-retired competitors from an agency in their country, but who are living outside their country are considered to be from the country of their agency. National and state/provincial agencies may have offices (facilities or units) in many cities. For the purposes of forming Combined Teams, each office is considered a separate agency (this does not include city or county substations and firehouses within a city or district, or similar circumstances). Therefore, competitors from these facilities may combine with other eligible competitors representing other agencies. Competitors from national or state/provincial agencies may combine any number of offices of their own agency.
Retired Competitors Combining To Form Teams: May combine with any other entrants, from any agency and from any country.
11. What is the Unisex Division?
Answer: Unisex Event: In Unisex events, entrants may be all male, all female, or any combination thereof. In Team sports, there is no requirement for a specific number (or team make-up percentage) of either gender. In Unisex events, men and women will compete together as a team or as opponents.
12. What are the winning times (results) for my sport?
Answer: Results and Records are published on the CPAF website. To see the results for your sport, go to: www.cpaf.org Click on “World Games” at bottom of page. Click on “The World Police and Fire Games Gateway” (in red) on top right of page. Click on “Results Bar” on left side of page. Scroll down and click on your sport. 13. I would like to talk to the coordinator for my sport(s), how do I do this?
