August 2011

For the past four years, the organizing staff of the 2011 World Police and Fire Games has attempted to pay tribute to individuals who truly define the spirit of the Games. One venue that we have utilized was our “Athlete of the Month” article. This section has covered many different sports, agencies and countries. In such a short period of time, we were unable to pay tribute to everyone who has ever taken on this challenge and competed in the Games. On a daily basis, first responders must face situations that many people will never encounter. We accept this challenge in our workplace as part of what we do and a select few bring this challenge to a different level when they take on the physical and mental challenges of sport. For these reasons, we would like to pay tribute to every individual who has taken on the role of a first responder and competed in the Games. Every one of you truly deserves the title “Athlete of the Month”. (We would like to extend a special thank you to Charles Spiteri for creating and graciously donating this month’s picture.)
