2010 Benefit Gala

The organizing committee of the 2011 World Police & Fire Games would like to begin by extending a heartfelt thanks to all the men, women and organizations that continue to support us each and every year. This year, the support was apparent by the amount of repeat guests. At the close of our fifth annual Gala, over 450 attendees had been exposed to an event that was second to none. Once again, we had the privilege of having former Yankee and YES network announcer John Flaherty act as emcee. His continued help and friendship is extremely appreciated, and will not be forgotten. Captain Phil Tufano (FDNY) also donated his time to help direct the live auction. We were honored this year with the presence of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg who made an appearance to show his continued support for our Games. Former New York City Mayor David Dinkins was also extremely gracious to act as our Gala Chairman and speak on behalf of the Games. Our list of honorees this year was quite extensive; Mike Ryan, who accepted on behalf of Scott Health and Safety, Liam Cavanaugh, who accepted on behalf of Adrian Benepe, Commissioner of NYC Parks and Recreation, Stephen Danhauser from Weil, Gotshal and Manges, James Fuchs, Olympian and President of the Silver Shield Foundation, Jeffrey Gural, from Newmark Knight Frank, Thomas Moran, President and CEO of Mutual of America, Claudio Reyna, from the U.S. National Soccer team, and Ed Schauder from Haynes Boone.

The event was once again staged with the New York Marriott Marquis as a beautiful backdrop. The evening began with the entrance of the FDNY Pipes and Drums, escorted by the PAPD Honor Guard. Police Officer Kerrence Darden, of the NYPD, followed with a beautiful rendition of our National Anthem. The number of silent auction items offered for sale was extremely popular and we thank everyone for their generous donations. Many Corporate supporters also showed their dedication to our event by taking time from their busy schedules to attend our dinner. We have one more Gala and one more year to go before the Games come to New York. Your enthusiasm and support has taken us this far. We have thoroughly enjoyed the journey and look forward to the coming year. Thank you again for all of your support and belief in what we can accomplish.
