** Baseball Finals Today (9/1) **

Baseball finals will be played today (Thursday, 9/1) at MCU Stadium - Home of the Brooklyn Cyclones, 1904 Surf Ave.

NY Yankees Centerfielder Bernie Williams will perform our National Anthem; this game features NYPD vs. FDNY. The game starts at 3:00 PM.

 

 

** Ultimate Firefighter Reminder **

There will be no Ultimate Firefighter Team Competition on Thursday

 

 

** Ice Hockey Update 1730 8/31 **

Hockey finals will be played Friday (9/2) at Aviator Rink at the follwing times:

** Breaking Sports News 2230 8/29 **

Bench Press will begin Tuesday morning for all womens divisions and Mens under 100kg. There is an athlete meeting at 8:30 and competition begins at 9:30. Wednesday's bench press will be for all mens over 100kg. Athlete meeting at 8:30 and cometition will start at 9:30.

The Push-Pull competition remains on Thursday, Friday & Saturday.

Racquetball will start tomorrow, Tuesday 8/30 at Lehman College and will run through Wednesday 8/31.

The Road Race will be run on Friday 9/2 at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx at 10:00am. It will be a make-up for all Road Race participants. It will be a 10k race run on one of the premier cross country venues in America.

 

 

** Urgent Sailing Update 2230 8/29 **

Sailing is cancelled for Tuesday only, due to the effects of hurricane Irene.

 

 

** Urgent News For All Mountain Bikers 1830 8/29 **

Hurricane Irene has caused a disruption in operations at Diable Free Ride Park. All three races have been canceled. We apologize for the inconvenience.

 

 

** Golf Update as of 1800 8/29 **

Due to conditions beyond our control the 2011 WPFG golf tournament will now be 36 holes instead of 54 holes. Golf will be played Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. There will be no golf at Bethpage. Please review the schedules linked below, and where it indicates you are to play Bethpage(**), that is now a day off.

• The information area at the Jacob Javits Convention Center will open at 9:00 am
• Accreditation will be open from 2pm – 10pm
• Athletes Village will open at 2pm
Hurricane Survivors Party all night in the Athletes Village

Jacob Javits Convention Center (No Sport will begin before 2pm)

• Air Rifle: Rescheduled from Saturday to Monday 8/29 at 2pm.
• Badminton: Moved to Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
• Basketball (5x5): 2pm START. Please check the website and email for updated schedule
• Bench Press: Meeting at 4pm in Room 1E-09 (Combat Room) on the Lower Level. Competition to start on Tuesday
• Body Building: THE EVENT HAS BEEN REVIVED. We will start with weigh-ins at 2pm. Athletes should check into the Body Building room at the back, right corner of the Athletes Village.
• Boxing: 2pm Weigh-ins and 4pm Athletes Clinic and Competitors Meeting in the Special Events Hall (Heroes Hall).
• Darts: 2pm start in the Special Events Hall (Heroes Hall).
• Judo: There will be a Judo meeting at 1pm to decide the future of Judo. Please be there. The meeting will be held in 1E-02
• Orienteering: Rescheduled to Thursday 9/1. Check the website for details
• Rowing – Indoor: Check-in and weigh-in at 3pm. Competition starts at 4pm
• Road Race: We are making an attempt to reschedule for Friday 9/2, however, this will not be a ½ Marathon, more likely to be a 10K
• Soccer – Indoor: Captain’s Meeting at 1pm on the court. Competition begins at 2pm
• Stair Climb: Tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 3rd.
• Table Tennis: 2pm Start
• Taekwondo: Weigh-in Monday, 8/29 at 5pm. Competition rescheduled from Sunday to Tuesday 8/30.
• Volleyball – Indoor: 2pm Start
• Wrestling: Weigh-in at 5pm in the Combat Arena on the court. Competition starts on Tuesday at 8am.

Randall’s Island Sports (All Team Sports will begin play on MONDAY, 8/29)

• Rugby: All Teams need to be at the field for a meeting at 1000 hours. Hong Kong format round robin tournament – Field 74 & 75
• Soccer: Games begin at 12 noon. Schedule is posted on the web.
• Softball: HAS BEEN MOVED TO MITCHEL FIELD AND EISENHOWER PARK – See Below
• Tennis: Moved to a Tuesday start – Please check USTA website and enter 100023511
• Track & Field: Starts at 12 noon with the exception of Decathlon which has been cancelled. The updated schedule can be downloaded here.
• Ultimate Firefighter: Individual Competition has been moved to Tuesday and Wednesday. Team event is on hold pending venue availability for Thursday.

TRI-State Sports (All Sports located outside of JJCC or Randalls Island)

• Angling Salt Water: Moved to Thursday 9/1 – same details as original confirmation letter
• Archery Field: As per original schedule – no changes - The 3D Competition originally scheduled for Sunday has been moved to Tuesday 8/30
• Baseball: Start time has been moved to 12 noon due to field repairs. Check-in at 11am
• Cycling: All cycling events are being rescheduled to try to fit as many of the original competitions as possible into the remaining days. Please continue to check the website for updates.

Tuesday:

Rescheduled: 0900 Time Trial at Floyd Bennet.
Rescheduled: 1445 Velodrome.

Transportation: If you paid for transportation, please arrive at the Javita center at 0700 to load your bike.

NO ADDITIONAL TRANSPORTATION WILL BE OFFERED.

Public Transportation: B or Q train to Avenue U. From the train station ride East (to the higher numbers to Flatbush Avenue.) Right turn on Flatbush to the Aviator Sports Complex. Please continue to the Air Field #2 (the rear of the field.)

Wednesday:

Rescheduled: 0900 Criterium at Coney Island (same location as sprints, refer to guide for directions.) Time Change: 1230 Sprints (please arrive early. The sprints will start immediately after the Criterium.)

** 2011 WPFG Sports Updates **

Track & Field Update:

Track & Field will start on Monday at noon at Icahn Stadium, Randalls Island. The updated schedule can be downloaded here. The only event not being contested is the Decathlon.

Track is back! See everyone Monday - If you have any kind of issue, come to Icahn and see Bob Orazem, Meet Director.

Squash Update:

Squash will start at 12 noon on Monday. The venue is the same - StreetSquash W115th Street (Lenox Ave. to 5th Ave.)

** Swimming Update **

Due to the Hurricane the swimming events at Lehman College have been rescheduled for Tuesday, August 30 and Wednesday, August 31. The meet will start each day at 8 A.M. with a 7 A.M. warmup.

 

 

Sports News: Sport Closing Information

The 2011 World Police Fire Games is nearly filled to capacity. There will be very few opportunities to enter sports when you get to the Jacob Javits Convention Center. The only sports that are taking new athlete registration are as follows (until they reach capacity):

Bowling
Cycling - Mountain Bike
Muster
Orienteering
Road Race - 21.1K

Additions and substitutions to Team Rosters can be executed up until the Team Captain's Meeting for each sport. At that meeting, all rosters will be finalized.

Latest News: Deadline for Gun Importation Filing

All ATF forms required for importation of firearms into the United States for the 2011 Games MUST BE POSTMARKED BY FRIDAY, JULY 15th in order to be processed. Any applications postmarked after that date will be returned to the competitor and the request to import firearms will be denied.

The 2011 World Police & Fire Games is happy to announce that they have partnered with Boarders Surf Shop in Rockaway Beach. Located at 192 Beach 92 Street, just 2 short blocks to the site of the Surfing Competition, Boarders Surf Shop has agreed to accept shipment of your surfboards for the 2011 WPFG. Sports News: Breaking News for All Shooters!

Sports News: Air Rifle Added

Air Rifle has been added as an additional event for the 2011 WPFG. This event will be held in the Jacob Javits Convention Center during the first weekend of the Games. Please check the ”Rifle – Air” sports page for more information.

 

Sports News: Important Sports Updates!

Softball

The venue for the Men’s Open, Women’s Open and Co-Ed Open Divisions has been changed to Randall’s Island Park on Randall’s Island in Manhattan. This is also the main venue for our Field Sports, Tennis and Track & Field events. The Men’s Senior (B) will still be held at Cantiague Park in Hicksville, NY. The dates of competition for these events remain the same. Please check the ”Softball” sports page for more information.

Baseball

The venue for Baseball has been changed to Baseball Heaven, a new, state of the art facility with 4 fields in Yaphank, NY. For more information on this great venue "click here".

Road Race - 21.1K

The date for the 21.1K Road Race has been changed to Sunday, August 28. This event is being run in conjunction with the Bronx Half Marathon which made this date change necessary.

 

Sports News: Small Bore Rifle Venue Confirmed!

The Camp Smith Training Site in Cortlandt Manor, New York will now host both the Large and Small Bore Rifle competitions. Please check the "Rifle - Small Bore" sports page for more information.

Housing for registered rifle competitors will be available at Camp Smith through the 2011 WPFG. More details to follow.

 

Sports News: Fresh Water Angling Dropped

Due to problems encountered in securing a suitable venue, the Fresh Water Angling event for the 2011 World Police & Fire Games will not be offered. Salt Water Angling will still be offered and arrangements have been made to accommodate any Fresh Water Anglers who might like to compete in the Salt Water event.

The 2011 World Police & Fire Games is proud to announce that we will be hosting a total of 69 sports.

Competition, which is the core of these games, will begin on August 26, and continue until September 5, 2011. Throughout this eleven day period, firefighters and police officers from over seventy countries, will have the opportunity to participate in the one of the greatest sports spectacles ever held.  All events will be held at world class venues that include New York City Parks, beaches and renowned historical locations.

General Eligibility Rules:

• Must be at least 18 years old, and publicly employed as a full time Law Enforcement Officer or Firefighter;
• Must have formal Firefighter or Law Enforcement training;
• Their primary occupation must be that of Law Enforcement Officer or Firefighter;
• Must be an active or retired Law Enforcement Officer or Firefighter from an eligible agency;
• Must have been sworn or appointed as a Law Enforcement Officer or Firefighter by an eligible agency.

Presently all sports, venue sites, and dates of competition, are considered tentative unless otherwise noted. All updates regarding sports will appear on the website when verified.
